My approach to photographing anything is to document and observe the scene before I try and tweak anything that's happening and nothing could be more true for family sessions. More often then not, I'm photographing very young kids and I've found that you get way better reactions out of letting them down and explore than you do when you try to force them into sitting when they want to walk.

I always want whatever your story is to come through in the feeling of your images. So letting kids play, moving around, having you focus your attention on each other instead of the girl with the camera is all part of what makes authentic lifestyle sessions so stunningly beautiful.
